This new regional cancer centre will be located on Lethbridge Street, next to the University Hospital of Northern BC (formerly the Prince George Regional Hospital) in Prince George, BC. Through this new centre, the BC Cancer Agency will deliver quality cancer care, including radiation treatment, and bring cancer services closer to home for patients and families living in northern BC.
The BC Cancer Agency, an agency of the Provincial Health Services Authority, has contracted Plenary Health to design, build, finance and maintain the new facility for 30 years, ensuring it is built on time and on budget. Construction will be undertaken in phases. The Centre for the North will displace over 200 parking spots on the hospital site; therefore, both temporary parking and a permanent parkade were constructed prior to the groundbreaking for the cancer centre. Plenary Health’s construction partner PCL started work on initial construction activity in January 2010.
Plenary Health brings a wealth of healthcare experience to the project, and is currently working on other Canadian healthcare projects including the Niagara Health System New Health-Care Complex and Walker Family Cancer Centre, the North Bay Regional Health Centre, and the Bridgepoint Hospital Redevelopment Project.
“We are pleased to have contracted with Plenary Health to design, build, and finance, as well as maintain our new facility in Prince George, through which we will be able to provide cancer services to residents in Northern B.C. We believe that Plenary Health is well positioned to deliver an exceptional facility that is in keeping with our cancer agency’s requirements. Plenary Health and its construction partners bring many unique attributes to this new centre, including longstanding experience and evolving best practices from many other projects.”
